Proper Exercise Regimen for the French
Bulldog
The French Bulldog is considered to be one of the less active breeds. This is not an accurate fact for
all French Bulldogs, but it is true for most of them.
French Bulldog owners will tell you that their dog loves to lounge around the house all day, especially if the
family is away.
This is a good thing for people that do not have the time to look after their dog, but it is necessary to
maintain your French Bulldog physically active.
The proper exercise regimen for the French Bulldog is one that does not require excessive activity. Their bodies
are not athletically built and can only withstand a low level of exercise. Moderate exercise for the French Bulldog
includes daily walks and a short game of fetch. These are exercises that will maintain your dog fit and will not
over work him.
If exercising your French Bulldog has proven to be difficult, you can use your creativity to get him to be
active. Some people hide toys or treats in different areas to keep their dog enticed and entertained. Others simply
break the exercises into shorter sessions, and use the time in between to give their dog treats and water.
When exercising your French Bulldog, take notice of any breathing difficulties he may be having. If your dog
begins to gasp for air, you should immediately suspend further activity. A French Bulldogs’ anatomy can make it
difficult for them to breathe, especially if they are overheated.
It can be a dangerous situation if your dog is unable to provide his body with sufficient oxygen. This can also
cause heat stroke in dogs.
When leaving the home, always make sure that you carry adequate water for your dog. It is very important to
provide your French Bulldog with water so that he can be refreshed. Also, remember to have your cell phone handy in
case an emergency comes up.
This way you can alert your veterinary clinic that you’ll be arriving. It is not likely that you will experience
an emergency with your dog, but being prepared will be beneficial.
The best times to have your French Bulldog exercise is early in the morning or late at night. These are the
coolest times of the day which will help prevent health issues in your French Bulldog. Choosing the time of day is
important to a proper exercise regimen for the French Bulldog. A French Bulldog can stay perfectly fit with 15
minutes of exercise a day.
The French Bulldog breed is not hard to look after, but it may be difficult to exercise your dog without putting
him at risk. Four main points to remember are; keep your dog away from hot weather, choose to exercise your French
Bulldog early in the morning or at night when it is cooler, only have your dog exercise for short periods, and
always provide your French Bulldog with fresh water. Most importantly, be sure to feed your dog an appropriate diet
to enhance his physical health.
